Historic Reconstruction Project – Saving America’s Treasure Grant
The Missouri Botanical Garden is a National Historic Landmark and the oldest botanical garden in continuous operation in the nation, founded by Henry Shaw and opened to the public in 1859. The historic perimeter wall is over 157 years old. ICA was selected by the Missouri Botanical Garden to reconstruct 400 feet of wall that was collapsing. ICA’s document methods were comprehensive and highly detailed. Every stone was itemized and delineated to record the original so that the reconstructed wall would blend seamlessly with existing adjacent wall areas. ICA performed a partial Historic Structure Report, developed the bidding documents for all phases of the building preservation process, and provided full-time observation services for all work.
